How to read an interconnection-queue row
MW, operator, ISO, document ID, and the one clock that binds.
Watt Brief · August 26, 2026
An interconnection-queue row is not a valuation. It is a public-record delta: something appeared, moved class, or got a new clock on an ISO or utility list. Watt Brief writes that as one row. This is how to read it. We use ERCOT and PJM process names because those are the lists people actually open. We do not invent document IDs here, and we do not attach a $/kW.
What the row is allowed to contain
A queue row has a headline, operator if the record states one, MW if stated or bounded, county and ISO, a source URL, the document ID the source printed, and one line on why it matters. If the operator is blank on the agency page, the row says so. If MW is a range or a cluster total, we bound it instead of rounding it into a false precision. Related dates — study window, withdrawal, restudy — sit on that row. They are not a second event.
The lists the row comes from
ERCOT’s Large Load Interconnection (LLI) process is how Texas posts large new loads that want to connect. A typical public artifact is an LLI row or packet that names a county and a MW request. PJM’s large-load / IRAS path is the Mid-Atlantic analogue: a study or queue identity that can be opened on PJM’s site. SPP HILL is the same idea on that footprint. FERC eLibrary matters when a docket in the EL26-67–72 family, or a peer large-load docket, actually names data-center or large-load interconnection — not when someone tweets a caption.
- ISO / RTO — whose list, whose rules, whose next clock.
- County — where the load is said to sit. A named county is the field that changes a site-visit plan.
- MW — stated, or bounded if the record is a range. Not inferred from rumor.
- Operator — only if the record states it. “Operator not stated” is a fact.
- Document ID — the ID on the source. That is the identity key with source and event class.
The one clock that binds
Every useful queue row has one date that actually binds: a posting date, a study-start, a response due, a withdrawal, a restudy. The rest of the packet is context. We do not turn each PDF page into its own headline. If the same document ID later changes class — withdrawn, restudied, restated MW — that is a new delta on the same identity, not a duplicate row with a louder title.
What the row is not
It is not a lease comp. It is not a $/kW. It is not a GPU TCO. It is not a promise that the load will energize. Public queues are late, incomplete, and sometimes wrong; operators withdraw; counties vote no. The row is a pointer to the agency copy. Open the source URL. Match the document ID. If the MW or county does not appear on that page, the row is not for you yet.
Format-only examples on the homepage are labeled EXAMPLE and use a fake ID such as EXAMPLE-LLI-000. Live rows use the ID the ISO or commission printed. If you need comps, use a comps product. If you need the clock before you book the visit, read the row, then confirm it on the list.
